Filed under: ![]() At BETT 2012, Prime Principle will be launching a new self-assessment feature for Classroom Monitor Secondary to help pupils take ownership of their learning and reduce teacher workload.
Currently used by over 15,000 teachers across 1,500 schools and nurseries, Classroom Monitor hosts and manages data for approximately 185,000 students across the UK and internationally. Complying with the Government’s Assessment for Learning strategy, the self-assessment feature will encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning, while streamlining teaching processes, providing teachers with the resources to easily monitor and report on the progress of pupils.
Visitors to the stand can receive a demonstration of Classroom Monitor and experience its latest features firsthand. Each visitor will also have the chance to enter a prize draw to win a free one year’s site licence for Classroom Monitor.
![]() Prime Principle will be launching a new self-assessment feature
for Classroom Monitor Secondary at BETT 2012 in January The new self-assessment feature allows pupils to safely log on to their Classroom Monitor profile to see a list of subjects on which they will be assessed. Pupils can then expand each subject to see details of required assessments, the objectives for each assessment and the deadline. Once a piece of work has been completed, pupils can check whether they have met their objectives before attaching the work to the Classroom Monitor workbook for teacher assessment.
This new feature puts the assessment onus on the pupil and encourages them to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to take responsibility for their own learning. Students are no longer restricted to traditional means of assessment set for them by the teacher on a day-to-day basis. They are instead given the freedom to take control of their own learning while using the classic features of Classroom Monitor to track their progress and identify areas that they need to work on.
The self-assessment feature also streamlines the marking process for teachers, freeing them from the burden of paper assessments and the need to record results in numerous locations. Instead, the single location of data in the online markbook allows teachers to see details of pupil progression, outstanding assessments and the information of each class at a glance, providing a quick and easy method of gathering group data.
It is not only Classroom Monitor Secondary that is benefitting from new and improved features, as the introduction of free online resources and content to Classroom Monitor Primary is also being showcased at BETT this year. Free resources, such as web links to curriculum mapped content from the BBC or the TES, provides teachers with inspiration for lessons and limits time spent searching for resources. By linking assessments to these resources, Classroom Monitor streamlines teaching processes, providing all necessary teaching resources in one location, freeing up time to be spent in the classroom.
Chris Scarth, Commercial Director at Prime Principle, comments:
“We are extremely excited about the new additions to the Classroom Monitor software. Schools are now required to be accountable to local authorities, parents and pupils, and the introduction of these resources promotes collaborative learning for all involved. Being able to access the motivational resources alongside the online markbook extends learning opportunities and allows students to monitor their progress for the benefits of their learning.”

Classroom Monitor will be exhibiting on Stand J9 at BETT 2012, which takes place from 11 - 14 January at Kensington Olympia, London.
