Education Secretary, Michael Gove praised Espresso Education and its co-founder and CEO Lewis Bronze for bringing learning to life during his opening speech at BETT 2012 last week.

Addressing educators, press and ministers from around the world, Mr Gove congratulated not only those who’ve shown political leadership in the promotion of technology, but also the business leaders who have been responsible for the huge number of commercial successes that were on display at BETT.

Mr Gove commented:

“I had the great pleasure, briefly earlier, of having a chance to see some of the exhibits and I also had the double pleasure of meeting a childhood hero of mine – Lewis Bronze – who some of you may know used to be an editor of Blue Peter.

“That for me was a thrill, but what was an even greater thrill was seeing the way in which his company – Espresso – is using technology to bring the existing curriculum alive to a new generation. The same sense of excitement that I felt at about 5 o’clock, twice every week when the Blue Peter theme tune was being played, is now there in the classrooms of tens and hundreds of thousands of children, thanks to the technology that he and other companies are using to bring learning alive.”

The Espresso stand was the first Mr Gove inspected on his visit to BETT 2012 on the first day of the show, which is the world’s leading event for educational technology.

Speaking about the recognition, Lewis Bronze said:

“All of us at Espresso are delighted that the Secretary of State opened his keynote speech with a highly positive reference to Espresso. We take great pride in serving the British education community and such recognition is much appreciated.”

Espresso is a video-rich, cross-curricular service that has won multiple awards and is currently in use in over 10,000 schools. Suitable for Foundation to Year 6 pupils, Espresso helps to make every lesson memorable and aims to save teachers time and strengthen pupils' deeper learning and understanding of topics.

In 2011, Espresso commissioned an independent research paper by Don Passey, Senior Research Fellow from Lancaster University, which highlighted a number of key findings including that Espresso drives deeper and wider learning, and early use of digital resources is associated with higher achievement in Key Stage 2 SATs.
