i-education will be showcasing their highly-acclaimed games based homework and revision system, I am Learning, at BETT 2012, as well as unveiling an exciting development.
At present, the I am Learning system encourages pupils in homework, revision and assessments by using games to encourage continual improvement by rewarding progression within mini games. Pupils answer questions on given topics across the curriculum. Answering questions correctly increases the chances of success in the games, and the more a pupil uses the system, the more games are made available. The pupil’s scores are then instantly uploaded to a school and worldwide league table, encouraging competition.
At BETT 2012, the team behind I am Learning will be demonstrating the brand new ‘multiplayer gaming’ feature, designed to add an additional competitive element to the system through simultaneous gaming which is anticipated to encourage more extensive use among pupils.
Speaking about the latest development, Michael Wilkinson, Director of i-education, said:
“This is a really exciting development that the whole team are looking forward to releasing. We know that in the real world pupils spend a lot of time playing multiplayer games, with the desire to beat others being the driving force that keeps them coming back. We realised that if we added multiplayer games to our offering, the pupils would be more motivated to play the games in order to beat their friends and would therefore need to demonstrate a strong knowledge of subjects in order to win.”
He continued:
“We hope that pupils will gain more enjoyment through this new feature and by proxy, use the system more. This will provide teachers with even more data about pupil performance helping them to tailor individual learning programmes around each pupil’s needs. We are confident that the launch of multiplayer games will engage learners even more than before and in turn, lead to even higher results improvements.”
Recent research from I am Learning collated statistics from 73,420 learners across the academic year 2010 – 2011 showed that, on average, results improved by 13.5 per cent when I am Learning was being used for more than one hour per week. This substantiates a 2010 independent assessment of I am Learning conducted by C3 Education where 87 per cent of teachers agreed that I am Learning is an effective way to learn.
Visitors to stand Q22 at BETT will be able to speak to existing I am Learning schools to find out what benefits games based learning has had on their teaching, as well as being given the opportunity to test-drive the system for themselves. There will also be a chance to take advantage of special offers available exclusively throughout the exhibition.
